Update #1

After teaching summer school today, I went to the local yokel hardware store to get my paint supplies. Mr. Helpful Hardware Man (more like high-school kid!) came over to "help". I actually had a mission for him! The light fixture Roger installed yesterday was missing parts (are we shocked? Not us! Happens all the time.) and we needed nuts and washers so the whole fixture didn't fall off the wall. So, I handed Junior the screw (had extra of those, those wacky Chinese box fillers. They like to make us Americans go crazy.) and had him get the needed parts. I picked up my paint supplies in the mean time. By the time Junior got back with the parts, I was ready to go. Yay! I did a few more errands before I went home. Roger took the old towel bars down so I could spackle the holes. Why on earth do people put in 4" screws to hold a towel bar? Anyway, we decided to see what was behind the dreaded medicine cabinet. Low and behold, a big HOLE! Just a predicted! I just sighed and Roger pondered what to do. I went about filling holes and washing walls. So, another trip to the hardware store. Geez, I hate doing this stuff. But, we're committed now (or soon will be!). More updates as they happen.

Home Improvements

Well, I got the lofty idea to "fix up" our main bathroom. I must have forgotten that every time Roger and I start a project that: a) it is never as simple as it seems, b) one small project turns into 14 larger projects, and c) we never seem to finish! I am determined to finish this time! The bathroom is in sad shape and really needs updating. We are starting with replacing the light fixture and medicine cabinet, and adding a mirror. I also plan to paint. So, after spending some $$$ at Lowe's yesterday, Roger was inspired and put up the light fixture. Easy, right? Not here! Of course, the junction box was put in sideways, so naturally the fixture we purchased doesn't fit properly, so he had to MacGyver it (see note A above!). There are also holes in the wall where the old fixture was, so there is another project (see B above). We have yet to remove the old medicine cabinet where we suspect there is a large hole in the wall. Luckily, a huge mirror will be covering it, so hopefully this will not be another project on the list. I will keep posting updates as they happen!

Silliness

It was a rare day around here...we had nothing to do! It was rainy for most of the day, so we just hung out around the house. Roxie was outside, barking like crazy. Curious, (and bored!) we went outside to check out what was making her so crazy. Across the yard was a rabbit. So, Roger decided put the leash on the dog and let her chase it. (Dumb, we know) With a firm grip, Roger held on for dear life as Roxie bolted across the yard after the rabbit! It was so funny. I guess you had to be there, but hey, when in the country, well, act like the natives! Shooo-weeee!

If you squint, you can almost see the picture of the rabbit.

Awards Day (and a proud mama!)

Jillian had 6th Grade Awards day at school on June 5th. Luckily, I was able to sneak away and watch, since her teachers told me, "You need to be there!" (You would think this would be easy to do, since I work at the school, but some days....) So, I sat in the lunchroom with all of the other parents, listening and clapping for the darlings. Mrs. Denton (math teacher) explains that the next awards being given are based on class ranking. Well, I knew that Jill has been doing fairly well, but you never know. Starting at 10, GPAs (grade point averages) were being announced along with the certificate and award. 9...8...7...6...no Jillian. Wow! She must be in the Top 5! 5...4...3...Still no Jillian. Oh well, I thought, maybe she didn't make it. Mrs. Turner, the principal, walks up to announce the Top 2 students. 2...and with an average of 97.3% is .....Jillian Nelson!! Out of about 100 kids, she is #1!!!! WOO HOO! I was SO proud of her! She earned a trophy with her name and a certificate. What a kid! I think we'll keep her!
